About Syria
SyriaSyria, also called the Syrian Arab Republic is country located in the western part of Asia at the eastern end of the Mediterranean sea.
Syria has the area of 185,180 square kilometers, making Damascus the biggest city in Syria ( and the capital of Syria). Syria is enclosed on by Turkey in the north, Iraq in the east and south east, Jordan in the south , Israel in the south west and Lebanon in the west. The country consists of five main geographic zones, which are narrow costal plains , the hill and mountain regions, the steppe and desert region, low rolling hills, and cultivated areas. In Syria weather conditions tend to vary such as, in the west there's always extreme desert dry conditions where it doesn't snow; and in the costal regions they have mild winters and hot summers. Natural vegetation in Syria usually came from farming, live stock grazing, and the cutting of trees or firewood. The population of Syria has increased throughout the year, as of now there are an estimate of 23 million people living in Syria. In Syria, Arabs make up 90.3% of the population while the other ethnic groups make up only 9.7%. |

Syria use to be a Semitic empire extending along north of the red sea and Turkey. In 637, Damascus came in control by Arabic people, having most Syrians converted to Islam's. Syria became a prey to all outsiders and was easily taken over. During the 1980s Syria signed a 20-year friendship treaty with the Soviet Union. This lead to Syria receiving heavily armed military equipment such as soviet arms and anti air craft missiles. Syria made several attempts to establish a constitution, it was only until 1950 where constitution was fully established in Syria.during the In 1999 Bassel al-Assad was elected to a fifth- seven year term. He later died due to a heart attack during the 1980s, this resulted in Hafez al-Assad his younger son to become his successor and taking his role as the next president in Syria.
